Fish Flop

by Jon-Jacob F Deal

I used to be an avid angler
Quite the merry mermaid wrangler
I'd never give my lure a test
I knew which bait my fish bit best
I never wondered where to go
Just jigged my line down, to-and-fro
In the shallow end of the brackish bay
Where the reed-stalks grow and the currents swaaaay...
Yes, the fishing-game, so well-rehearsed!
I always knew what I'd do first
Just tickle the quarry's appetite
Let her know I was near, but that all was alright
Then, with the fish's interest piqued
Deeper down in the briny shoals I sneaked
Making waves in time with the tidal motion
Slowly turning the bay into an ocean
With deliberate action, my impatience deep-sixed
She would slooowly stop swimming; yes, the fish was transfixed!
The tail churned no longer, the gills gaped like pink books
The fish's eyes closed as her lips grasped the hook...
But from the fish, I sensed worry creep into my hand--
A tsunami was coming! Could the creature withstand?
Too late, no more thinking! My triumph would begin!
Set my hook, yank her out, hold on tight, pull her in!
And within that sweet instant, our struggle would STOP

I beamed as my pretty fish lay there and flopped.

Author's Note: Hmm, is this explicit? You tell me, fellow fisherpeople... ;)

*soft smile* Fun read, and no I wouldn't consider it explicit.
