starry night: inspired by the van gogh painting by Wendy Gealstars crawl, and sweetly purge
against a horizon of delicate, echoing hue
they swirl out endlessly blue
and shower the sky with a
sparkling rain- mist,
light breeding, kissing the mountaintops,
love-making the air in itÂ’s little night- trance
soon the sun will flame up, again
hushing back the sweet golden
crescent moon
sending it to its hollow space and
lulling dreams away
of once flawless spiraling spheres

Posted by Maureen Glaude on 06/23/04 at 01:11 AM how uncanny - I was just looking at a book on writing on art, and it had this picture and discussed how it got its title, etc. (just the other day) - superb work. |
Posted by Maureen Glaude on 06/23/04 at 01:37 AM I think this is your very best. POTD recommended! |
Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 06/23/04 at 01:37 AM Your poem and its sparkling poetics nicely reflect how inspiration like energy passes from one form to another(as per Einstein), recalling the song by the same name sung by Don McLean back in the 70s. A minor point of note, the word it's when used to show possession is spelled its. Good work. :o) |
Posted by Michelle Angelini on 06/23/04 at 07:47 AM I wish you the best of luck, too. I look at that painting everyday, since my roommate has a copy of it. I've also discussed the imagery in the painting in several classes. Your poem is wonderful description of Van Gogh's work. |
