The First Day of the Rest of Your Life by Chris Sorrenti
"a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"
- Chinese proverb
It stretches out before you
any number of metaphors will apply
a field of tall corn beckons to be navigated
a freshly iced skating rink singing to your blades
Like the bee that keeps pushing against the glass
an open window just inches away
Through all the mistakes and mistaken insensitivities
it purifies you to the rank of marksman
where the only bull’s-eye is in putting things right

Posted by Maureen Glaude on 06/23/04 at 12:45 PM and may those baby steps take you into happiness in this new life. This is a very fine poem of good intentions and soul-searching, I think. |
