Kate: dear sunlight, by Andrew S Adamsthe rain poured unttil the sun broke;
this was about eight o clock.
noting the awkward timing, i ponder-
but no matter, for the sun emerged.
as the cloud dissipated,
the rays of a pink sunset wound their
way through the atmosphere.
this moment though, was all to brief.
as i closed my eyes and thought of
this time tomorrow, the
sunlight choked off, leaving this place
suceptable to the darkness that
inevitabally follows.
you're escaping into the west;
and, dear sunlight, i hope the
days are longer when you do return;
for i sometimes fear the dark if it
ever lasts too long. 06/10/2004 Posted on 06/10/2004 Copyright © 2024 Andrew S Adams

Posted by Kate Demeree on 06/14/04 at 03:15 AM I enjoyed reading this... the symbolisem of nature used to convay thoughts and emotion was superb. |
Posted by Cole Miller on 06/14/04 at 05:34 PM oh how i hate the time of year when the days grow shorter... but i love this little poem. |
Posted by H.M Stevens on 10/03/04 at 07:22 PM Oh man, this is sort of a western-out doors man song... 'sunlight choked' heading west... a wonderful eulogy of sorts- packed full of powerful imagery... more so though-- this poem is a rendition of the paradox of sunlight- because there is sunlight, there is also darkness- without sunlight we would never know to loathe/fear darkness- interesting duality presented. - |
Posted by Melanie J Yarbrough on 03/28/05 at 09:19 PM I get this feeling all too often- but lately I've been attached to a song about darkness and how the sun always keeps us from the night and the moon- so I'll settle in that eve-light moment in between. like a time-warp. ~melanie |
