what's up with you? by Richard TrotterFriend, you ask, what ails you
when thought and wisdom fails you
when flower roots derail you?
I answer glumly, 'tis her hair
that falls like a shattered stair
desperately leading nowhere.
And the stars that shine on sadness
to pick out each facet of madness
and certain people's coldness:
With their rows of hangman faces
betrayed in different places
the wide and gaping lonely spaces:
So the lessons I cannot learn
leave the hollow man to yearn
willing the pages to turn. 06/03/2004
