Those Who Forget the Past Are Doomed by Amy WustrinThese sticky, summery nights
Are bringing me back to you in a fury
You'll never know how far it takes me
Tailer Park nights
Suffering through treacherous discussions
About cars and swimsuit models
Watching you and your friends
Drink beer and smoke Pot
While I stayed sober
And drove you home at the end of the night.
(beginning of the day, really.)
And if i was lucky, you'd invite me in and ask me to stay.
It didn't seem fair then.
It doesn't seem fair now.
We almost got arrested three times-
I saved you when that girl from your closet
Left you on the side of the road in Valley Cottage-
And who was there to clean your bloody back
After that fight with your dad?
I thought I did everything right
I thought I could reach you
But I've watched you push others away...
I guess I just thought I was different.
Well, what girl doesnt?
But I really don't know why I wanted to be anymore.
What I do know, is that yearning
Sure beats the hell out of this emptiness
And you're so far gone
I couldn't reach you if I tried.

Posted by Lisa-Dawn Sparling on 09/01/04 at 05:37 AM wow amy. this made me feel a hundred different things. First of all the last line is amazing. second of all, you are obviously better off. I have men(boys) from my past that I feel the same. I like the line "I thought I did everything right" i can empathize with that. The funny thing is that I bet that guy looks back at you as the one he let get away. |
