Sunlight Floods My Room

by Amy Wustrin

6AM in a dark room meant time to get things done

6AM in a dark room meant the year had just begun

In the comfort of my bed

The darkness wrapped around me

And moonlight of the early hours kissed my cheek

Granting me a false sense of security

That time wouldnt go by so fast

But time has gone and taken the darkness

The moon has disappeared

Now sunlight floods my room at 6AM

A constant reminder of lost opportunities

And I realize hours have passed in a minutes time

And all I have are souveniers to seek comfort in

The cruelty of sunlight flooding my room

The sun masked by the trees outside my window

Ducking behind clouds to avoid my angry glare

A glare that cries because its 6AM

And sunlight floods my room

I like the repeated stock phrases. They give this piece a stilted quality that actually adds, rather than detracts from the tone.
