Long Semester

by Amy Wustrin

4:30 in the afternoon

and already it's darker

than a stormy mind

People are rushing to finish

running errands and Christmas shopping

And I'm rushing this whole week to end

So I can pack up my stuff

And finally go home

for the holiday break

The noise in this city

is competing with the noise in my head

and neither of them ever wins

They just get louder and louder

All the police sirens and hypothetical ponderings

Just drown out the voice telling me

to finish my photo assignments

So I'll be that much closer to home

But I'll finish them just in time

Same as I always do

And vow that next semester

My mind will be clearer

And I will stay on task

Next semester.

My reading assignments

will be done on time.

my photo assisnments

will be done on time.

I will always be prepared for class

AND I WILL LET NO BOY

ROB ME OF SLEEP!

No distractions

No delays

Just keep your eye on the prize, Sara.

The rest will handle itself.

Yeah.

We'll see about that
