Long Drive by Amy WustrinIt's a long drive
between now and then
(Nearly 19,000 miles according to my spedometer)
And as I revisit every moment
every mile
That happened in between
It's apparent to me
That the only ghost
Haunting these places
Is me
We both know
That if you never think of me agian
That will be just fine with you
And if I were to forget you entirely
You would survive the pain
As for me
We met among autumn leaves
Making golden, brown, and orange descents
To the damp ground
And now there can't even be
The Scent of cold in the air
Or I'm bound to think of you
And I can't imagine existing without you
Any other way
Than with and ocean of memories
Forever at high tide
As I pay with all my tears
Just to sit on the shore
With the waves lapping at my feet
And watch them rise some more
Until they swallow the sun
And I am alone in the dark
And the only part of you left to haunt
Is me
