Bleeding Hearts and the Mess They Make by Amy WustrinIn this age
Where nothing can be simple
Where compassion and reality
Just don't see eye to eye
The questions never stop
And the answers never satisfy
Well guess what, America?
You already know more
Than you ever had the right to know
They can't tell you everything
And it's for your own good
So stop being so damn ungreatful
More sacrafices are being made
For your safety and your freedom
Than you can ever fully appreciate
But your bleeding hearts here at home
Leave a bigger mess to clean up
Than the whole 2nd Gulf War
What is it, America, that you're trying to prove?
Who are you trying to impress? The French?
Dressed to the nines in your best protest clothes
And parading around with your picket signs
I'll bet the lot of you have never had the pleasure
Of having to decide to send your country to war
Do you think he wanted this?
Do you think he wanted September 11th?
Do you think he wanted to clean up that mess?
Or have to confront the demonds of the past?
Do you think it was easy for him?
You probably do.
Where's the compassion of your bleeding hearts now
When the leader of your country needs it?
Why don't you look beyond your self-righteous noses
to stop denying the very real threats we face today
And thank your President for his commitment
to preserving your way of life by any means necessary
Or a soldier for his willingness
to make the ultimate sacrafice
so you can demonstrate against him
For God's sake, stop focusing on your precious ideals
of how things *should* be
And take a moment to step back and see
what's being done to achieve those goals
It may not be your way, but I dont see
anybody coming up with a better, more effective plan
I just hear a lot of bitching about
how awful and messy and unpopular war is
(Because popularity is EVERYTHING)
At least after war the soldiers stick around
to clean up after themselves
When are you gonna mop up the mess
you make with your bleeding hearts?
