Outside is silent tonight

by Sam Roberts

Just a designated smoking area,
Sitting on the porch with the door firmly shut behind me
I am just this dust on a petal,
And I am silent tonight because you are

The tree’s whisper what I fail to speak
They laugh, so I grimace
They dance around my silhouette.

And I leave tonight because you are
Left dancing around nothing

this made me want a cigarette. and it reminds me of watching the front yards in the darkness back in birmingham alabama. thanks for helping me remember.

"I am just this dust on a petal," - what a great line. The separations here are subtle but very effective. Congrats on POTD!
