desert blues

by Ulyss Rubey

Fifty clicks from Abilene-
Where man or beast may have no sway
Desert view untouched, pristene
Yucas reach with white bouquets. .

Enthralled I slow the car to stare-
My peaceful mood is taken back,
One lowly lonely prickly pear,
Cavorting with a Walmart sack.

Ha. Of course there's a Walmart in the middle of the desert pastoral. Well put.
