Soldier

by Ernest A Miller

I am a Soldier
In a nation that hates me
But loves the freedoms I grant them

Served by a president that cares less if I die
That cares more about his Skull and Bones
And thinks he will be re-elected

I am a soldier
Supported only by the men to each side but hated
By those in front and all too often by those behind

There seems to be a lot of this going around lately. Nice poem, and you're right. JJ

Strong reminder of what soldiers went through when they came home from Vietnam. Much of the public looked down on them, and yet many were conscripted into the army.
