Midnight massacre: death by puppy

by Gabrielle L Gervais

My dog has been sharpening her teeth since the day
I came home and evicted her from her half
of the shared-sister bed.
She sits on the cardboard moving box by my head
looming over me, her shadow eclipsing the bathroom light
that slides through the bedroom door and onto my face at night.
Glancing through the ringed cracks
of her black on white eyes,
she chews tenaciously on her bones bringing her
dull puppy teeth to a hostile point.
Her thirsty scowl turns to playful sparkle only
when the other bodies begin to stir.
In the meantime, I try to convince myself,
if I lay still and cover all my vital organs, maybe,
maybe she’ll forget I’m there.

"Death by Puppy" - Hahahahaha! Well...I suggest you keep those eyes of yours WIDE OPEN just in case...very humerous :-)

The fear of the fear , though illogical, is so evident. The guilt too, the cause of the fear.

Being familiar with the situation, I found this to be thoroughly enjoyable and quite humorous. Glad to see you taking such a twist on the situation. Loved it!

You've got a gift for painting a scene. That first line sets this up perfectly and I'm still not sure if you made it out alive. A nice mix of tension and humor.
