This Site Is Not a Popularity Contest...

by Trisha De Gracia

And yet
the best of the best
could write
the worst of the worst
on the side of a napkin
in dried up felt marker
left handed and coffee stained.

We'd take this "abstract
"non linear" piece of
"freeform brilliance"
with "outstanding simplicity"
and "so much said
in so few words"
and praise it while newbies
get lost in the shuffle.

Author's Note: Let's praise where praise is due, not where reputation for great poetry favours it. Great poets write bad poetry too.

Agreed...It's not a popularity contest. But I've found the more you put in, the more you get out. I find it amusing more than anything. That if I write a piece that is beyound everything I've written so far it gets read maybe 20 times. And if it's really good I might get 3 comments. Whereas if someone more well known post their random thought ramble for the day, it immediately garners 15 brilliant votes and 10 comments. I'm not bitter or anything. I'm happy that their are people who enjoy reading what I write on a regular basis. I think that's cooler than anything on this site; you can find someone who sees things the way you do.

I voted this POTD :)

I didn't understand this at all - perhaps you should concentrate on freeform, non-linear abstractions. For a start, the title is completely inaccurate - for another, I, too, wanted to suggest this for POTD - even that pleasure is denied me. I guess the expansion of my favourites list is some consolation...

A wonderful poem, expressing what I've often thought. When I was accepted on pathetic, I allowed ratings for awhile. Then I decided to stop them, because I'd rather receive comments & suggestions on my poetry. If I don't get any, that's okay too, because I'm posting for my own purposes & pleasure, rather than someone else's. In my first few workshop classes I ran into very brutal critics, who dissed my work for some ridiculously petty reasons. Personally, I don't care for the rating system; it doesn't mean that much to me. Often, rather than give a rating, I'll im the poets and make suggestions, which they can take or leave. JMHO

You seem to have read almost everyone's mind here. Very well articulated and definitely worthy of the comments.

...ahhh, uhhh can i say something?...oh well, it's already been said, and said, and said, and said...ah to be one of the popular ones...to bask in the ignorance of the masses...oh well, at least it's not brain surgery, someone could get hurt...love this tragically RIGHT-ON piece, you're on my favorites now, i just discovered you tho you weren't lost...peace, chaz

This piece rings so true!!! I have been thinking the exact same thought. Excellent and very thought provoking piece! BRAVO

Being a "newbie" I welcome any comment or critic. I've felt the same way as you and since I write for my own enjoyment and release I say Bravo for expressing my thoughts in simple terms.

the first stanza pretty much covers how I feel about some visual artwork! and one could extend these thoughts to all forms of 'branding' ... the just because it's so-and-so it must be good kind of sheeple-ing! I am very glad I didn't get lost when I arrived at pathetic :)
