Ordinary

by Alison McKenzie

Stepping in and out of the megacosm;
One foot in spirit,
The other in my skin;
I am a walkingsoul.
It’s not effortless to advance this way -
Negotiating realities,
Bargaining with sanity,
Balancing pandemonium and peace,
Mediating the polarities,
So that the end result
Surpasses gray…

It is sometimes useful
To be Ordinary, however,
And I've discoverd that being Ordinary
Infuriates some beings.
I just giggle, which annoys them more,
And keep walking…

I laid this path
Before I ever arrived;
Boulders, sink holes,
Skunk scent and bear crap;
Blooming foliage,
Babbling brooks
And lemon trees.
I laid this path
With my own bare intentions;
Sweat drenched soil,
Blood soaked branches,
Shirt torn
And no crumbs to find my way back.
Through the veil of forgetfulness
I find myself mapless
In my own territory.

O Wombless past,
I surrender.
Morph me toward the gaping destiny,
Nebulous kismet,
That is my future.

Here and Now,
I'll gaze about my journey in each moment
With bewildered regard,
That turns to relief
As I take happy note:
I am not gray at all.

I laid this path With my own bare intentions; Sweat drenched soil, Blood soaked branches, Shirt torn And no crumbs to find my way back. Through the veil of forgetfulness I find myself mapless In my own territory. But you made the map and here you are. Time has a way of putting past pain in its place.

I stumbled upon this in the Random listing; glad I did. I really like how you mix the positive and negative in any given situation...thus inspiration. For example: laid this path Before I ever arrived; Boulders, sink holes, Skunk scent and bear crap; Blooming foliage, Babbling brooks And lemon trees. You're a very talented writer Alison, and I'm not just saying that to flatter you because of a crush. Have you tried hard copy publishing of any of your work?
