The Switch

by Rula Shin

I was in my dream world
reveling in surreal beauty,
moving where life took me,
reacting to every last stimuli,
thus, continuing this process

just here the breaker tripped!

I gaped, surprised in all the
light that once was darkness,
exhilarated by this clean release

I bowed, standing steadfast
I was happy, beaming with confidence
nourished by a charge of creativity
in surrounding barren sands

I forged ahead to greet
Life from moment to moment,
I saw pure beauty in the
shadows of the omnipresent present
smiling brave and strong
so eagerly, I clung on

just here the breaker tripped!

thus goes the cycle and
my anxiety mounts to think
'what do I do with this life?
what do I do with this piece?
where will it lead?
Where will it end?'

blindness?
enlightenment?

blindness?
enlightenment?

where???

this journey is poignant,
but more so and importantly,
remains a never-ending storyÂ…

Moments of brilliance in the dark... I live for those and would be glad to keep on the path if the durned environment would stay the same. This is so well said... reminds me of a song I loved called, "I am Shadow, I am Light." How do you diverge the two?

Not diverge... meld. Sorry. Long day.

Well, this piece isn’t a reflection of the ever changing ‘moods’ owing to associations, external or with the thoughts associated with the thoughts associated with the external. This piece of yours reflects a ‘switch’ from one layer of awareness to the other, a jump from a ‘sleep walking state’ to a state of awareness. A rare phenomenon, no doubt. I phenomenon which produces glimpses of life, scenes of what is. This piece is verbalization of a transition, a switch from one level of being to another, from one layer of consciousness to another, a phenomenon of different order, meaning, clarity and reality. This ‘switch’ is simply transcending the boundaries of nonseeing. From nonseeing to seeing, from ‘blindness’ to enlightenment. SEEING is an intricate thing. And so is KNOWING and BEING. In the absence of a ‘switch’, which as a matter of understanding is in the nature of a SHOCK, intentional (provided by a conscious work on one’s self) or accidental, which provides you glimpses into the unknown. The doors of the perceptions does open for you giving you a glimpse into what is, which makes you SEE the reality of the so called reality from various objective (not so subjective) corners. This ‘switch’ makes you walk unwalked into the space of time-‘ I saw pure beauty in the shadows of the omnipresent present …’ which turns an automata, the so called human machine into a conscious being, making him walk out of the dream one is in. Such a ‘switch’ is like transcending the boundaries of the dream world, to realize that-‘ I was in my dream world reveling in surreal beauty, moving where life took me, reacting to every last stimuli,’ In a sense, SEEING is seeing nonseeing. SEEING ‘blindness’ is a form of enlightenment, which again is rare. Can a blind person ever SEE his blindness? Since, the moment he starts SEEING he is no more a blind. The breaker tripps and there’s a distinct switch from blindness to enlightenment, ‘light that once was darkness, exhilarated by this clean release’. This switch fills you with a CHARGE of beautiful energies –‘ nourished by a charge of creativity in surrounding barren sands’, where the SCENE diametrically changes, where the meaning of meaning takes another meaning. Needless to say that realities, values, scales, freedom are nothing but a perception perceived from a different layer provided by this ‘switch’. The breaker tripps and we are back from this state of ‘enlightenment’ into this ‘blindness’. The process continues. There's no permanency. ‘Where will it lead? Where will it end?’ Where??? Well, the process continues and it should. The process of providing intentional SHOCKS should continue for this state of enlightenment to recur. And recur more frequent. There’s no permanent ‘aquittal’ from this ‘blindness’ nor can the process be postponed indefinitely. ‘this journey is poignant, but more importantly, remains a never-ending story…’ A profound perception this piece is.

Well, I am sorry for using this space for commenting on Mikes comment. But since Mikes comment confines to the central idea of this piece, I feel I am justified in registering my comment on a comment here. Mike is right in deducing that we tend to react to every stimuli, external, owing to the LAW OF ASSOCIATIONS. As a matter of fact, these stimuli's are the energy source providing energies to the associated selves. This is our ordinary state of BEING, which as a matter of fact is absent. But in the course of our lives, owing to some accidental SHOCK, we switch to another layer of awareness where every thing starts meaning so different. The SHOCK is basically opening of some refined energy accumulators. This state can also be attained by conscious hard work on one's self, by conservating energies and transforming cruder energies into finer. But, incidentally this state lasts so far the energies lasts. We are back to square one if the cosncious work is suspended.Basically there are many layers of awareness and they are like dreams of different order and clarity because one is never sure WHAT IS, objectively.

Indeed, the never ending story of us all...attempting to walk non-chalantly atop the quick sand of life. You've done we fellow mere mortals proud with this one.

Well, this peice arised many thoughts in me. And not that many poems do that. The phases and questions that were present can relate to all of our lives. It was very philosophical in the simplest of forms, for the main question for our existance. Are we continuing in utter blindness or is there a place where we obtain this "enlightenment?" This peice really made me think about my own life, and the reality of the unknown. So, thank you for that moment your words brought me Rula.
