Wishing Wells

by Adrian Calhoun

Waiting quietly for that which does not come,
yet the hours pass quickly without anxiety.
Time is no longer of importance, it merely
measures that which no longer applies to me.

As the chill fills the night air,
coyotes cry in unison to the orange moon,
and I sit steady, patiently anticipating.

Silently, without as much as a whimper,
I fall deeper into the depths of the dark well
that has become your very soul.
I find no rest here, I have taken leave of my senses,
yet there is no fear within as I continue spinning,
out of control now.

Your eyes once told me it was safe to enter in,
and your lips provided warmth for my cold bones.
Without hesitation I gave you complete power,
never thought to question or second guess you.
I went down without a fight,
for you.

Betrayed by what I wanted to believe,
or by my own lust, I am unsure.
Now I am eager to find the end of this path,
where ever it may lead.

I must now hope that the well has not run dry.

Very somber! I am glad I read "crazy love" first! There are those times of patient love! Times when commitment means everything! You give exceptional expression to some very intimate feelings.

Despite the various shades of darkness here, there's still plenty of tenderness and hopefulness in its words to lift it high out of that well.

No troubles here folks. All is well in marital bliss. Just waitng for our ship to come in and it will be sailing soon. I do however think it is great that Adrian can express such emotion in a vivid piece that is not a part of his personal life. To me that means a great poet with expanded horizons and for that I am proud that he is MINE!!!! Io amore il mio marito, (I love my husband) and his beautiful artistic endeavors. Ben cotte miele!( well done honey)
