In My Skin

by Alison McKenzie

Lilting notes play on the wind
Reaching my ears
Flitting hither and yon
Before diving inward, there,
Lifting my soul
As if it was not weighted
By heavy burdens

The breeze, oh the breeze,
Touches my face so tenderly
Whispering to me gently
Comforting me,
Finding beauty in my face
That men do not see
Eyes of magic,
The Wind,
I inhale deeply
Taking it into the core of me
Like a missed lover returning from a long journey

I lay outstretched in the cool morning grass
Under the Sun
Offering my whole being
In complete trust
I know I will be warmed
Nourished and caressed with loving rays

Lady bugs crawl onto my skin
Delicately tracing my sadness
Gathering it up like a harvest
Flying it to the meadow
Where it will be laid to rest
In the water

Royal dragonfly kisses my toe
Tarries there
Meeting my gaze so I know
He sees
The longing in my heart
He offers the miracle of a new beginning
And I silently accept
With gratitude that has no words

Such blessings
Extended to me every day
On the open palm of creation
I am so glad to be in my skin

Warm positive message throughout; nicely captures the happiness of being alive. Thanks for the uplifting read, back at work after a five day Easter weekend.

This is the first time I've read one of your poems, but I was alive in your words - especially the ladybugs and dragonflies. Beautiful poetic sentiment.
