Posted by Rula Shin on 04/12/04 at 06:45 PM This is so meaningful to me Chris. A powerful message of hope is this questioning of the 'good' and 'bad' labels we commonly choose to tack on to experiences we long to define in our present state. It is here we project our deepest fears onto the future. Yet the effect of the cause is a "truth still hidden" (just as the cause will retain a new label with each passing moment), and thus, not subject to present "right[s] or wrong[s]". The only tragedy larger than "having been mistaken when you hoped only for the best in what turned to be worse" is allowing an infinitely limited human perspective to govern one's decision to take "the chance" in opening "doors" of opportunity. I feel happy to have come across this uplifting piece of yours Chris for as you say, "truth for truth’s sake" is a means to living willfully for the sake of living. To me this poem is about FAITH...that's how I saw this. Very enjoyable read.

Posted by J. P. Davies on 04/12/04 at 08:57 PM Simple but with very universal message. An older poem that still (and will always)apply. Well stated idea I have these thoughts myself alot. :) |
Posted by Maureen Glaude on 04/12/04 at 10:04 PM I believe it was Keats who wrote "Beauty is truth, truth beauty. That is all ye know, all ye need to know) and I always loved that. But some truths can be more deeply mysterious and hidden, and some false truths hide the reality. In the ultimate analysis it may take a Higher Being to know, but we know in our guts when we're living honestly or not and can never fully deceive ourselves. So it's the mandate to be as honest as we can, even to ourselves, I think man must live by. Interesting and important questions. |
