My Last Request

by Mary Ellen Smith

In old age
If I must be defined, lined
Then let nature take a pucker here
A tuck there
Along a smile’s path.

Let my face reflect a dance.
A happy day, a laugh.

All in all I tried my best
And I hope my face can show
All the love and happiness
I know.

Oh, we melt too fast
And folds are formed
The sum of all we’ve been.

My last request however vain?
Tuck in my double chin.

Wonderful little piece..I love the humorous light shed on a dark subject for most of us

hehe cute. Age catches all of us who don't die young i'm afraid. However, aged faces can tell a thousand tales, and I find a lot of definitions to life reading some of the aged faces I come across. I am sure yours will tell a happy story and show a tender soul. Well written.

LOL! Very clever ending! Liked the line beginning "let nature...". That nature does! Philosophical salted with humor!

Both serious and at least good natured if not humorous throughout. An enjoyable read; thanks for sharing it!

Let my face reflect a dance.....and great last line, too. let's all hope that our sense of humor is the last thing to go, eh?

It's always a pleasure to stop by and read your delightful verse. This is really special - have you considered submitting it somewhere - I'll bet a magazine for "mature" readers would really appreciate it.... d:-)
