A lived for ever.

by Ashok Sharda

A lived for ever.

B died every moment

Without experiencing the death

B died at eighty

Living his death for eighty years.

A lived every moment

Experiencing his death from moment to moment

A lived forever

With a moment of life

Unexperienced.

Obviously A is what we should strive to be though most all of us are currently Bs. I saw this beautiful thinking poem in this way: First, death (in life) can be seen as a beginning as opposed to an end a death of one self is the rebirth of another (hopefully more improved) self. Thus, this poem suggests that life is really a moment to moment experience of a series of deaths so to speakthis is why the speaker talks about dying every moment instead of living every moment. Another way to see this is to look at say that life is what we do while we wait to diethis is why the speaker talks about dying moment to moment as opposed to living moment to moment. Hmmmlets hope this is making sense so far hahaha! Second, B is unaware of what experience really is. B is the sleepwalking state we aimlessly roam in with little consideration for WHAT IS within and withouta virtual walking dream. Eighty years is a long time of living backward and living forward and never walking with time, living moment to moment, or rather, dying from moment to momentthere is little to no growth for B over these many yearsthere is little action and abundant reactionthere is no awareness of the intending self. There is no 'treasure' to be found in this existence. B does not experience anything of significanceand so, tragically, B is living his death. Finally, A is the epitome of how life should be experienced, every death from moment to moment experiencing each rebirth in time as it occurs. The ONLY experience that A will never have is death of ANY sortfor in experiencing death (or life if one prefers) from moment to moment one can never LIVE or experience deathand the physical death of A is inconsequential as this death too will go unexperiencedphysical death is but a moment of non-experience for any personbut LIVING death is a different story that takes place over a lifetime Well, thats my takehows that for post-mortemization my friend? Hahahahahahanow please tell me where I have stumbled.

RULA STOLE ALL MY WORDS. Ashok, all I can say is "amen." The thoughts are too personal and too deep for me to even try to bring them into the open just now. But I do thank you for this. And "amen."

i love this poem too... live every moment (not second) to it's fullest... walk one mile knowing you have 10 to go... and always, always bring MOWGLI along... *smile*

i see the living examples of this every day i go to work. the worst case scenario B's are making everyone around them miserable because they are. would there were a few more A's about.

Brings to my mind those who, perhaps in "quiet desperation" have lived their lives in fear, intimidation, or without purpose. A sad lament.

The three dashes as opening lines speak volumes, Ashok. Passing through the Gateless Gate, I found my ego, hanging in the noose of body-consciousness. A classic paradox of Self and its manifestation outside the present moment. Pe4ce...

A very deep poem. Maybe I am more of a B person rather then A or maybe I could be both A and B sometimes. Thanks for sharing. I'm adding this one to my favorite files.

Everyone seems to have explained your poem in great depth so I won't do the same. hehe. It makes me think, I am more like B, the pessimist. It's kinda like 2 groups of people..how we define each other. Either we're A = ignorant and optimistic or B = pessimistic. But who says ignorance is a bad thing? Great poem x

Fascinating comparison of two types of people. Kinda like seeing the glass as half full or half empty for eighty years.
