Unquenchable Thirst

by Rhodora M Fitzgerald

Arid words of despair
fail to escape me...
They dawdle on parched lips
frantically needing to be heard.

It reminds me of feeling smothered, or trying to cry out in the midst of a nightmare. Very vivid images!

Got one with the very same title, but a different meaning entirely. Oddly enough. LOL
Good to see little green arrows, always love your way with words! :)

Wow, I feel parched myself all of a sudden :-) This little piece of yours is absolutely wonderful in that you have painted an intense picture with words...a snapshot that reveals suffering, "words of despair...dawdle on parched lips...frantically needing to be heard" - how can this be said any better? The 'need' to express emotion through words is so great one must be careful not to wither away from the throat's lack of cooperation...this poem is about 'swallowing' down the words, they form a lump don't they? This is about being consumed by the unspoken...and this increases the thirst, the intense need for relief and replenishment...without quenching the thirst I'm afraid the consequences are dire. That's my take anyway..great read Rhodora!! .

Short but brilliant. Well formed and powerful.
