a progressive society apocalypse.

by Andrew S Adams

one day, the beaches will be asphalt,
replaced because the sand was syphoned.
the world, run on electricity as it's cocaine,
will bow down before it's enslaving lord.
the individual grains of sand will work
for the greater good, creating a
better, stronger world.
one where sunlight is not necessary,
one where human initiative is only a
byproduct of the running of machines-

(we're working to discover cures for
this unfortunate side effect,
eliminating the glow of life emanating
from the inside of this insane asylum)

meanwhile, you and i will walk next to the ocean,
which is the bane of all humanity nowadays-
less land for the growing expanse of
mindlessness; the haven of creativity
is located on islands we have not yet
reached- but, with a few lines of code,
this emotion will be removed from the
database forever, and we will be left
with the blackened sky to find peace;
the shocks of lightning to create
understanding.

(as the minions were deleted,
the last of emotion was destroyed.
the system, self reliant,
shall never sleep)

one day, this process will stop.
we will wake up, flip the switch,

an internal error will corrode the mainframe
an acidic emotion will realize itself, and instantly
we will be walking on the beach,

and it's a beautiful day.

This amazing poem has a terrific cyclical effect, much like society itself. I especially like the correlation between humankind and nature. Splendid, blended poetry, Andrew...pe4ce

What comes first, the chick or the egg; the human or the dream? I often wonder what exists on those unreachable outer islands where greed and complaceny can't survive... Much to think about in this piece and it was written with great meter and depth. Bravo!
