Underwater

by Richard Trotter

While dreaming of undersea caves
I stop to gaze at restless waves
When, up from the azure ocean
Causing a white foam commotion:
The Leviathan is revealed,
Secret beast no longer

Carries me on its sleek black hide
Down to where sea dragons reside
The city where it never rains
A world not ruled by earthly chains
Near the coral, neon fish glide
And greet King Neptune's chosen bride.

Mermaid eyes framed by floating curls
Dressed in a robe of seaweed and pearls
Then the scene is disturbed by the Sea LordÂ’s cry
As dolphin sentries duck and weave by
City besieged by a demon of the deep
The monster squid stirred from its ancient sleep

Leviathan clashes with its tentacled foe
Joined by the sharks and mermen also
One more stage in the aquatic war
but stranded on the white dreamy shore
All I can hear are the restless waves,
with eyes shut I dream of undersea caves

Author's Note: another very old poem, one of the first that I ever wrote. I think the rhymes are quite forced.

Not bad for an early work. I didn't find the rhymes forced. Imagination put to good use Captain Nemo!

dreamy, really. it's really great for an early piece, and the rhyme is effective. Carries me on its sleek black hide Down to where sea dragons reside...is prrrfection. in line and rhythm and sound. i would only make changes in any areas that don't flow.
