don't ask me

by Melinda Sordino

i feel your eyes caress me,
your fingers cross my chest.
slowly you undress me,
i can’t remember the rest.
don’t ask me "what’s the matter?"
the truth is i’m not here.
and love me all you’d like,
my soul has disappeared.
i float above us both,
laying on this bed and
though my body responds
i’m locked inside my head.
i can’t tell you what he was like,
i truly do forget.
it's times like these that i'm sure
he raped my innocenece.

there is a wonderful rhythm flowing all about this poem, inside and out.
