Scary Ghost

by Traci Mabats

My son
(who is four)
likes to put a blanket
over his head
and run around the house
saying "I am a scary ghost"
And indeed he is,
because scary ghost can't see very well
with a blanket over his head
And in his haunting
he runs into many things
Walls, sofas, chairs, counter tops
but it is either that
he stubs his toe
or has another tragic run in with the coffee table
that this scary ghost
really starts to wail

this is adorable, and so true, it's like when my son used to play superman and had a little cape my husband's aunt sewed the S into for him, and would jump off his dresser *then we had to settle him down a bit for safety) how precious these moments, and nervewracking, and how fleeting when I look back now. In the house after they grow up and leave, those moments are like ghosts. Well done.

Cute, well balanced humour and seriousness, entertaining warning for any would be phantom!
