Do not arrive before you're there by Michele Schottelkorb
Focus, child, in the Minds Eye
{tomorrow will wait}
Do not arrive before youre there
{today will wait}
See through centered Aqua Vision
{yesterday is gone}
Give each moment Its fair share
{forever is a Lifetime} 03/11/2004 Author's Note: inspired by a conversation with Ashok Sharda in which he mentored me in not arriving at work before i get there... i have practiced this for the past three mornings... one day was hectic as i had a drunk driver in front of me (yes, at 7:30 in the morning... you have to love Southern California...), but i am attempting to live in each moment and focus, instead of jumping ahead and living in the future, thus ignoring the lessons at hand... here is my first "growth" poem... **side note to Ashok, thank you for the recommendation of changing "second" to "moment" in line 7, i did not realize that "Second is a measurement created by humans"... moment fits much better :)

Posted by Maureen Glaude on 03/12/04 at 09:29 PM yes, starting a new job recently and studying for it at home too, and then putting myself through the steps mentally on the bus, etc. had its pluses, but its minuses too and probably is not a good thing. Yoga and meditation, and poetry, beforehand. Not while driving, of course, but on the bus. |
Posted by Ashok Sharda on 03/14/04 at 09:28 AM Its the inherent death instincts which chases us ahead of the time and well before the space, we intend, has arrived. Its necessary to defy this instinct in order to live and live like a true four dimensional being in space time continuum. Merge your time in space and see how beautiful and energetic this living is. And the time slows down in real sense. The experience of time. Time is after all relative. All the best. |

Posted by Rula Shin on 07/09/04 at 10:36 PM Give each moment Its fair shareforever is a Lifetime and a Lifetime found in one single moment if one is truly present. Drive, but not to arrivethere is a truth to this statement that is unparallel, and this poem speaks its volumeswonderful piece dear Michele! :-) |
Posted by Philip F De Pinto on 05/24/05 at 12:06 PM forever is indeed a lifetime. forever makes itself cumfy and cozy in us who serve as its clock. forever is a long time if we sing. forever is a sore throat. and you Michele are a cure for forever singing itself hoarse. you Michele are a losenge. |
Posted by Cassandra Leigh on 02/23/07 at 02:14 AM this is one of those pieces that is so incredibly versatile... can be related to so many things. i wanted to spend the time to write this because i sat here contemplating what you wrote for a long time, and it reminds me so much of the adolescents that surround me every day, trying to grow up way too fast. making long-term decisions that affect more than one person like i choose what shoes to wear in the morning. you are so, so right. very thought-provoking and well done. thank you so much. |
