Sangria

by Anne Engelen

Blood is thicker than wine

Strong essence of fruit

Talk to me tonight

Sheathed source of strength

Spike my speech

Keep me company

My blood is asleep

So listen to my lament

I’ll drink all of you

There's an assertiveness behind this that I like - almost as a warrior speaking to his sword.

Strong poetry Anne...a somewhat biblical analogy to compare blood to wine...heavy words, well spoken ;)

Oh how I love that stuff! So sweet and fruity, I could swim around in vat full and never get my fill! - Wonderful image in your words - RCat

Wonderful piece, Anne. I can hear, faintly in the background, delta blues played on an old guitar.

This is so evocative and reminiscent of the Sangria phase of my late 20's. There is something passionate about this wine and sensual about your lovely poem.

Fermenting poetry, Anne. Sans the yeast and bacterium. You and your nectar just get better with age. *raises goblet & bows* Pe4ce...
