Pragmatic?

by Maureen Glaude

I don’t mean to sound pragmatic, Lord
but without you to walk to
to talk to
aim the enigmatic questions
where would I know hope?

I don’t mean to be selfish, Lord
nor to use you a crutch
but without you to lean on
in what could I trust?

I don’t mean to feel stronger, Lord
but believe me I do
when you whisper, "I hear, child
and I’ll always be here for you"
