A Ribbon On The Roof

by Kalikala Smith

A ribbon on the roof,
distracted me from the truth,
about the people and the places,
that I needed to go.
It fluttered and shuttered,
its glory throughout,
and battered my winter,
into a bleak, blistered spring.
The mystery of the surface,
that took my entrancement,
failed me in its glory,
by waving away and taking its story.
How empty it feels,
to not have a distraction,
from the holes in my heart,
the vacancies in my soul!
Now all I'm left with,
is a road to continue on,
and a basket to fill,
with meaningless roses,
and a ribbon tied to the side.

I know how it feels when the poet's heart is driven to write such loveliness as this.

This is really pretty and deep at the same time. The words kinda flow like a ribbon.
