Song of the Seamaid by Leandra K Brossard"Behold the crystal waters bright,
the scintillating shards of light,
caress the flesh of all who come,
prepare the mind for glory's song,
Behold she parts the sea of glass,
cascading sunshine drops like brass,
her voice pearlescent in the dawn,
pours forth like silk, rolls on and on,
Behold the song of Oreana's child,
so pure and playful, her sound so mild,
May she never feel the weight of time,
nor come to hear Soleil's dread chime."
*Voraliante smiled as the sweet tones of his harp faded away*
I've always loved that one,
It's where they got the name for this tavern,
did you know that? "The Singing Mermaid"
She's been around a long time, this place has,
caters to the higher-ups now,
didn't always used to be so..
It's always been a place of the finest music though,
so as not to insult her memory, you know..
*Voraliante smiles once more to himself and reminisces upon many fond memories tied to the place, her pearl and shell decor, cool blues and greens and illusory fish swimming sublimely near the ceiling..*
~Scribed by Virdu Prosther, aide to Voraliante
01/25/2004 Author's Note: The first three stanzas I consider a separate poem within the prose.. like a vignette of the world I portray seen by the character within it..

Posted by Agnes Eva on 01/26/04 at 05:27 AM yes it's like an ancient poem within a prose piece, the whole scene very charmingly rendered |
Posted by Maureen Glaude on 01/26/04 at 03:07 PM I really enjoyed this. I'm reading about mermaids in Carol Shield's novel, The Republic of Love, aren't they fascinating and beautiful? I loved that you had the singing in. |
