I'm Sorry I Couldn't Say The Words

by J. P. Davies

Freedom carries sacrifice
so put me up for slaughter.
I miss you so much that
it hurts to breathe the air
when your not here.
You never saw me cry for you.
The tears were mine alone.
I just wish you would understand
just who I am.

I am a person who went off track.
And love was the cause of my
repeated derailments.
So you wonder why I say the things i do?
It's because I thought I knew you.
But really never had a clue.
So I write out my frustrations,
in these poems when I feel blue.

What I think is not important.
It's what you think of yourself.
I wish you all the happiness
that I could never give you.
I saw a picture last night
of us the night before the breakup.
And in our smiling eyes there was no clue
as to how things would be.
Your tongue was planted on my cheek
and I grinned my usual smile.
I loved you but my path seemed clear,
guess that I was in denial.

I loved you...I did.
Don't forget that I know you.
Inside and out and up and down.
You're the girl I met too early in my life.
"Wish me luck...the same to you.
But i won't regret what I did for love."

I love that song lyric at the end, always have. This is a fine tribute to a love, that perhaps timing played a trick hand in, it has a way of doing that, and a very beautiful piece. Sometimes later in life, the story of the people gets a new chance?

Quite the moving piece. Truly sad, especially considering this line: You're the girl I met too early in my life. I think we all have someone like that in our life, and if we live long enough as I have, we even meet a soul mate too late in life, having already committed to another years ago, with children and life choices not so easily changed.

This is amazing Jordan. You've come through this so well, and been such a strong person.
