"it's just make-believe" by Ginette T Belleand i will no longer
have to endure the smell
of red lipstick from the courtesans
that hover around me
bedraggled boots forever in the aisles
i go down head first
white powder liquid on my breasts
the charlatan's quick gasp
predetermines which direction i go
and me - the alarmist
picking at my picayune life
begging for existence
i wondered if adversity
would go through the roof
so they wouldn't
so they couldn't
allow me to shop there anymore
it's just innate babblings
sometimes it's lonely up here
on auto-pilot
but fishnets and cheap cologne
won't dry me out today
so says i 01/08/2004 Posted on 01/09/2004 Copyright © 2025 Ginette T Belle

Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 01/10/04 at 05:03 AM Nifty assemblage here Ginette. Both a relevant and entertaining read. Fishnets and cologne always were overrated.
Posted by Quinlan L Gibson on 01/10/04 at 04:05 PM i just LOVE this piece. It goes out with a bang. Nice work.
| Posted by Alison McKenzie on 01/10/04 at 05:41 PM "...begging for existence" I LOVE that line, and boy can I relate!

Posted by Rachelle Howe on 01/13/04 at 02:53 PM hm. aside from the, "so says i", the whole thing was magnificent. i think it weakens the punch of not being dried out, of not giving in, not baring witness to such undermined germs. ;) nice, ginette. you've come a ways.
Posted by Jeanne Marie Hoffman on 04/17/04 at 05:06 PM As it progresses, the poem draws one in. I find the line "...won't dry me out.. etc" especially powerful
Posted by Michele Schottelkorb on 02/17/05 at 11:07 PM this is so succulently brilliant... subtle sexual innuendo lends substance to this "make-believe"... awesome... blessings...
