I owe you

by Michele Schottelkorb

I owe you

(for every time you smile at me, when you feel like scowling)

I owe you

(for cracking all your silly jokes, even when I’m frowning)

I owe you

(for saying that I’m beautiful, even when I’m screaming)

I owe you

(for planting a kiss on my nose, even when I’m seething)

I owe you

(for every treasure that I own, even though I’m selfish)

I owe you

(for setting all my wrongs right, even when I’m foolish)

I owe you

(for all these things and countless, endless more)

I owe you, till the day I die

And beyond the golden door…

'I owe you', reflects a positive approach of a sensitive person full of understanding. The world would definitely be a nice place to live upon if every individual can have this kind of an approach to life and others. This piece speaks more of the author than of the subject.

What a great gift and perspective on your relationship. And an excellent model for us all. Well said!

Your poem is a beautiful response to those moments of unconditional love received from the precious few who see through the bespeckled hull to the inner wheat. Wonderfully done, Michele, kudos to your husband too.
