Every Boy Is a Stack of Pretty Phrases

by Aaron Blair

Every boy is a poem,
his parts translated into words,
but never just the pure of him.

I always let them fester,
to mutate in my brain,
until I'm not sure who they were
before I stole some piece of them,
and twisted it to make it mine.

Every boy is a stack of
pretty phrases, and I do the
rearranging until they could look
at their own insides and not
recognize them, think them
someone else's innards, torn
and mangled and resown.

Author's Note: So the last couple of lines are heavily influenced by a passage from Angels in America, but it's true that I always write poems about the males that I like/love/whatever and usually, it's not about them so much as it is about how I see them, or feel about them.

I too found the impact of this very strong. Sort of like the country song, I only miss the man, I wanted you to be.

It's the twist you do to them and the twisted way you see them that causes growth and poetry. Nice verse that is addictive to read.

Love the title; I thought this was going to be about pick up lines, but was pleasantly surprised by the actual concept and inspiration behind it.
