Every Boy Is a Stack of Pretty Phrases by Aaron BlairEvery boy is a poem,
his parts translated into words,
but never just the pure of him.
I always let them fester,
to mutate in my brain,
until I'm not sure who they were
before I stole some piece of them,
and twisted it to make it mine.
Every boy is a stack of
pretty phrases, and I do the
rearranging until they could look
at their own insides and not
recognize them, think them
someone else's innards, torn
and mangled and resown. 12/30/2003 Author's Note: So the last couple of lines are heavily influenced by a passage from Angels in America, but it's true that I always write poems about the males that I like/love/whatever and usually, it's not about them so much as it is about how I see them, or feel about them.

Posted by Christina Gleason on 12/31/03 at 03:54 AM i think the last stanza is, influenced or not, wonderful. you do it justice. "every boy is a stack of pretty phrases" you've got some killer lines recently
Posted by Maureen Glaude on 01/02/04 at 08:38 PM I too found the impact of this very strong. Sort of like the country song, I only miss the man, I wanted you to be.
Posted by Max Bouillet on 01/03/04 at 03:41 AM It's the twist you do to them and the twisted way you see them that causes growth and poetry. Nice verse that is addictive to read.
