chimera angel

by Nanette Bellman

she's made of the sweetest sugar
and ruffles and lace
so i've heard
she's everyone's dream
and thought and talk
maybe i'll learn

i never was your fantasy

she wears her curls with ribbons
and paints gold over the rust
on her halo
her wings are to move
and squeak from time to time
you know

but her snow isn't so white
and her sugar's not so sweet
and her halo doesn't shine
and her wings quite often squeak

i never was your fantasy
but i have innocence
a might fine quality
that she'll never have again

she's made of pretty things
that sparkle and that shimmer
these things can be replaced with money
when they dull, the break, they dimmer

so who's your fantasy now?

if you want to be involved
with sin and dirt
to lose the light you have
to stumble and get hurt
or do you want purity
and the essence of innocence
set your standards high
your standards i have met

i always was your fantasy

Thought provoking poem with much truth and wisdom behind it.
