{sans} aplomb

by Lindsay Sanders

shatter the sky
and burn the sea
and hold my heart
out on a limb at the
specific angle in which
it could blow just out of
my reach if you decided to
let go.

itÂ’s your tingling tears that
keep me on the line, wait-
ing for a question. wait-
ing for an answer. and
the tsunami that rages
in my delicate heart
is not showing any
signs of stopping;
i look for you

in the eye of the storm.

Author's Note: my emotions have been so jumbled lately that this is the most cohesive piece i have written in what seems like a long a while. {by the way, aplomb = confidence in case you didn't know. it's a great word is it not?}

A very powerful poem in its set up and expression Lindsay. I like the way it builds to the crescendo of those last few lines. Well done!

Filled with intense emotion. Great read.

The imagry in this is as intense as the form. I haven't seen a piece of concrete poetry whose shape suited it as well as this does. SO well done.

Hmm... a couple of reads for this one, it's a lot more fascinating than it seems at first. The breakdown of the meter that started with the first couple of lines is especially interesting, since it gives a sense of resignation, letting things collapse and go with chance. The flow through the second verse carries that sensation perfectly. Wonderful stuff.

don't we all. but the one who stands through ours, and the one whose storm we stand through, well, those are the ones. *sage nod.*

I like this- there’s a feeling of having resigned to another that shines right through this, of being completely at their whim and mercy, but still, there is hope there as well. I read this over and over expecting to find some hint of bitterness, anger, or resentment, but there isn’t any I can find- it is an honest expression to another of what is going on in your heart. It is interesting how this poem truly and exclusively balances between hope and hopelessness, with time and waiting being the observant fulcrum. Thank you for sharing this Lindsay. Always hold on to that beautiful honesty. {m}
