Speak Softly to My Heart

by Cathlyn Cartier

Speak softly to my heartÂ…

Echo whispers
Like the wind
Drive away the chaff
Of unfruitful seasons

Trickle faintly
Like a spring-time brook
Filter through the hidden crevices
Cleanse away the silt of broken promises

Pour hyssop
Upon my bosom
Anoint with frankincense and myrrh
Heal the bruises of forgotten dreams

Speak softly to my heart
Lest your words be lost forever
Speak softly
Of friendship, love and hope
Speak

Author's Note: Hyssop, Frankincense and Myrrh have been noted since ancient times for their medicinal/healing qualities and were highly valued because of this.

Reminds me a bit of Psalm 51:6-8. A prayer, really; also plea for gentle understanding, forgiveness and love from friends and associates.

The use of imagery to make a statement of the heart is eloquent and sensual. Lovely poem.

Soft and muse worthy. Nicely written.
