Topic: The Tigers Eyes Are My Own

by J. P. Davies

It hurts to be gouged
by your words to me
that are rapidly becoming
the very things I need.
To hear you cry again
is painful and remorsful
but to know they stem from
your love for me is worse.

If I look into your eyes
I see what I'm striving for.
It's a smile and a sparkle.
Or it's that all my mistakes
are reflected in your eyes.
Leaving me stripped bare
of all pretences and shells.

But now I realize that the tigers eyes
are my own...
And I see myself reflected truthfully
in the burning glass that are your eyes.
You know me as I know myself...
You control me...

I can't tell you how well I can relate to this poem, especially the first four lines. it's funny how sometimes the things that hurt us the most are the things that we seemingly need. this is a love poem, a poem of longing, and a poem of bittersweet happiness. you have alot of really emotion-packed lines in here J.P., and they all work really well with eachother. I know it sounds weird, but I've read this back to myself again three times, it almost sounds like you're looking into a mirror while writing this. a reflection, perhaps, of missing something, especially found in the last stanza. I don't know, I told you it sounded rather weird:) anyway, overall, wonderful poem, great pick for POTD. Congratulations.
