Compulsive Liar

by Amanda J Cobb

I am not sarcastic.

I am everything I ever wanted to be.
I believe in my power to change things.

I have no regrets.
I am never disappointed with myself.
I never cry.

I get enough sleep.
I don't ever eat junk food.
I exercise regularly.
I never bite my nails or crack my knuckles.

I do not procrastinate.
I never wear the same shirt twice without washing it.
I don't speed on the highway.
I am extremely organized.
I never give up.

I understand myself completely.
I only keep my good memories.
I know what I want from life.
I don't fear anything.
I am not alone.
I am happy.

I never lie.

Author's Note: Yes, I realize it's blunt...it's what I was going for - overt, obvious untruths.

As I was reading this, I thought to myself... doesn't sound like the kind of person I want to have anything to do with. Then I read your author's note and the title and got a kick out of it.

The way you have phrased this reminds of those trivial little questions that we use to greet each other. "HI. How's it going?" "Just fine. And you?" "Couldn't be better." Then they both go jump off a building. Great verse that keeps the reader thinking.
