erica

by Emily G Myers

I have only
imagined her
the girl who got
what I deserved

shy but
obviously
not too shy

"do you love me?"
she [only 15] asked
"only say yes
if you mean it"

"no" he
[after giving her
his innocence]
replied

but she laid down
for him again

he never did love her

maybe
when you're
[only 15]
you think
it's the only way
to be loved

she may have gotten
what I deserved
but I got what she
always wanted

Author's Note: I certainly wasn't planning to write this. I haven't even met Erica. she was his first - a subject I never thought I'd broach... broached. he told me this story, and instead of getting angry (as he thought I would), I was brokenhearted for this girl - a feeling I never thought I'd feel for her. I guess these things just surprise us sometimes.

Well written, Your playful tone and meter contrast with the sorrow and pity inspiried by the words. Great ending! -bf

Beautiful. Clever. I like the way your mind works. Another great read.
