a chemical reaction burns the light,
constricted pupils suffer the blinding
and overwhelming loss of sight.

a prolonged expulsion of white hot heat
a burn seared open before the pain could reach the nerves

and a hidden message that can only be seen
when it is indecypherable to the highest degree

and, as quickly as it starts, it retracts
the star in your hand has run it's course.

such beauty,
and oh, the burnmarks and blindness.

but such beauty.
