Lost Art of Conversation by Traci MabatsExcuse me,
is this your name?
I found it on the floor.
Oh, its from when you
introduced yourself
Sorry, I don't retain much these days
Oh, not much for conversation either
I'm afraid
I mostly stumble over my sentences,
misuse my analogies and
lose my train of thought
The distracted look on my face?
No, no, its not that what you
don't have anything interesting to say,
its just I have a short
attention span
Who did you say you were by the way?

| Posted by Maureen Glaude on 11/25/03 at 12:21 AM Reminds me of a very awkward moment I had recently, when I ran into a former classmate from years ago, who approached me and obviously remembered me well and by name. I knew her face, voice, and all, but couldn't place her name or where I knew her from. Eventually I realized, after we chatted a while, but it felt terrible. I kidded she's a lot younger than me. I used to be so good at everyone's names&faces. You cover an important issue very well. First time introductions often don't stay with us either, the names, that is. Super. |
| Posted by Chris Sorrenti on 11/27/03 at 05:48 PM OMG!!! It's like you wrote this for me. And we're not alone. So many of us are like this now, as if this behavior is a symptom of the insanely paced, too much on our minds world we live in, and technology (e-mail, cell phones, pagers, TV) seems to be the main culprit. |
