cliche?

by Leslie Ann Eisenberg

Poets must be crazy,
thatÂ’s what they say
but if my mind splits open
and jewels spill,
call me what you will

Lock me in a turret?
epics gush
like a faucet on full blast

Bar my windows?
I shatter them with my sturdy nib
and make my escape
by stringing words together in
a popcorn wreath
my raven hair slithering down
in silken raindrop ink

Set me free?
I walk on my hands
in God's lush garden,
I grasp colorful quills
between my toes
and dance, upside down

Author's Note: An hour ago, in a car full of screaming children on the way to breakfast at Giant Burger Diner, I scribbled with a blue crayon on the back of a michelin warranty card i found in the glove compartment.

wow. BIG letters. i literally went whoa. as for the piece itself, the blue crayon would be a nice touch. ;) but the whole thing ties in together quite well, though i don't understand the cliche part. o.O esplain?

Ahhhh, dream a dream of the poet. Dance with quill in hand! A great verse that should bring the poet out in anyone --or call the men with white jackets! :)

Love the offbeat message here; makes for a refreshingly different read. Hardly cliched. :o)

Your expression of poetic endeavor hardly cliche! Keen imagination as well as humor.

Delightful! A wonderfully playful look at the process. I also like your description of the setting for the birth of this poem - sounds like how I write some of mine! Congrats on POTD! d:-)

Wait wait.. I've rated this already, and never commented? I'm disapointed in myself, lol.

Anyway.. congratulations on POTD, Leslie:) funny story,.. I was just thinking how cliché my writing seems to be lately as I loaded the site, and then Pathetic.org appears on my screen with the word "cliché?".. haha.. oh well, I love this. lets dance upside down together :)

Things like this pop out of the mind at the most interesting moments. Something in there was being very creative and dreaming that day, for this lovely lil escape from reality. :)
