A Military Wife am I

by Leandra K Brossard

The time has come, his duty real,
They tell me he must go.
Far away for another's zeal,
I am now on my own.

"Together" is a fond remembrance,
A memory that still remains.
Though time rolls slowly onward,
I seldom hear his name.

I do not feel his hand on mine,
his warmth here next to me.
I do not have his presence here,
only memories.

He speaks across the void to me,
and tells me it's alright.
In my heart I know it is,
yet I am still alone at night.

"We're here for you" I hear it said,
and know that it is true.
A Military wife am I,
but there are many others too.

"Anything you need is yours."
"Whatever we can do for you."
"Has anyone called to see how you are?"
"I know this is hard for you."

Do not worry for me, Love,
I am well enough for now,
I have friends to keep me close,
and help when I am down.

I shall not turn away from you
for this is the life you lead.
I shall be ever always true,
and you will always come back to me.

It is hard for those that have to be apart. Good poem....Charlie

a highly commendable poem and example as a wife, in a stressful situation beyond my imagining, which is very taxing on the young but I suppose on any wife and couple. Well told, and I'm glad he's home now.

Hi Leandra, Great write. So emotional, so caring and loving. It's always heart breaking, knowing a loved one has to go away to serve in the wars. Even without wars, it's hard. Cause being apart so long at times. Waiting for letters to come and maybe a phone call once in awhile, is very precious and dear. Oh, I see he's already back. I see it was mention in the last commnet. Duh on me. :) Hoping and praying all is well for you two.
