A Lovely Shawl

by Jane E Pearce

Sad songs drape a lovely shawl
in folds that understand,

and its fringe almost feels
like a warm familiar hand.

The notes cling and coil
around a subdued heart

like a soft cotton bandage
to sooth wounds that smart.

Its lyrics carry memories
of words long left unsaid-

sad songs drape a lovely shawl
around a love now dead.

A gentle, sad flow to this. I like the way the first line loops around to the end. The fringe as a hand is a terrific image. Congrats on POTD!
