Los Angeles

by Karl Waldbauer

So I met someone, a fine, I mean really fine, guy here in the City of Angels and would you believe he's another damn actor...can't throw a stick without hitting a guy who claims to be an actor in this town...and I think "Right, and I'm a maharajah" until I looked him up on the internet and lo and behold, I not only met a real actor, but had met someone who told me the truth. Wonders keep on happening, it seems.
Well, we really hit it off, talked a lot and spent an incredible amount of time in bed.
Tell me now, what do you do when you've found someone like that, I mean handsome, hot, smart, interestingly moody, and so easy to get along with? Here, in the Epicenter of Superficiality you do NOTHING! Live for the minute, don't think, and be careful, you just might feel and that's not allowed at all...bad manners, you know, and if you do start to have feelings, like L O V E, hide it, be quiet and pretend it never happened 'cause sex is great but sex and love is just too powerful, too intimate, too close to the core of our humanity to be allowed in the Capital of Illusions.
My friend, listen well. Get your sex from casual pick-ups at Starbucks, hot impotent tweakers at Rage, or better yet the bath houses (my straight friend calls them Dog Parks). You want love? Call your mom back East.

...now that's exactly why I don't mind being an outlaw. If that's society's earnest...i don't want to fit in. Great read...too bad this is a too often truth.

Awesome words that come across in a wise conversational tone that piques interest and gives stunning imagery. Great read!

Sounds like you found your soul mate Karl. Sometimes you have to only go but a short distance to reach distany. Kudos bro!

starts off well, captures my interest; "...told me the truth" is a strong line, as is the last line, but the middle paragraph feels a little strained, could perhaps use some trimming - Overall, I like it

not the sort of poetry I'd write for my hometown (I'm also from la ciudad de los ángeles en California), but it's different. I like it!!
