Late Fall Tanka

by Maureen Glaude

Strolling a country gravel road
Ontario November morning
I passed on the way, and back again
a small frog
in a frozen stance

makes me question if it's dead, or in a stupor from the cold, or just Nature being still. Any significance in it being specifically a 'leopard' frog? Also your walking somewhere, and back, and the frog's appearance both ways hints at the cyclical seasons... "Ontario November", when things might already start to be frozen... pretty purely done here

Reminds me of the cyramic (?) frogs in your back yard. Nicely captures the seasonal chill, brrrrr...cold for frogs and humans alike, and snow coming down this morning on my way to work. Sigh...already wish I was still in BC.
