Noble Farewell by Siri LipscombI appreciate the nobility
I recognize the honesty
In both your words
And your behavior
Showing me that you were
Staying where you are
Being willing to stay away
Even when you knew I was grieving
Even when it hurt too much
To face the agony of parting
Knowing that reality saw
Truth and love departing
When it became too painful
To be together
You ever so gently
Let me go
Are you happy? You say no
If you're not happy
And I am not happy
Then what is so
Goddam noble
Even so what is really
Being sacrificed?
I knew when we met that
You are far too decent
In heart, mind and action
To ever, ever pop the bubble
Thank you for the sweetness
Of your open heart
And thank you eternally
For thy gracious farewell

Posted by Glenn Currier on 10/22/03 at 01:25 PM Your poem evokes feelings of sadness and hopefulness in me. The sadness is about the pain and the grief, the anger and the lonliness. the hope is about human beings who are able to reach out beyond their pain. It also occurs to me that this piece has the seed of a healing within it. Thank goodness for poetry, huh? |
